In a July 2018 OFF SCRIPT interview with Jamie Foxx, Washington recalled the 1988 Oscars, where he was nominated for Cry Freedom and correctly realized Sean Connery would win for The Untouchables after Connery received a standing ovation while presenting. Leaving without the Oscar, Washington saw preparations for the Governors Ball and joked: ‘I’m leaving here with something… I’m from around the way.’ The clip resurfaced widely in 2021 and became a reusable mantra and reaction quote.
